Midwifery in Fort Mill, South Carolina

Midwives are healthcare professionals who assist women as they labor and deliver a new baby. We also provide complete care during the prenatal and postpartum phases of pregnancy. With the extensive knowledge and expertise to serve during these important phases of pregnancy and birth, midwives allow women to have a healthy pregnancy and an optimal birth, whether this occurs in the mother’s home or in a hospital.

At Birth Choice, I practice midwifery for those living in the Fort Mill, South Carolina area, and I understand how the experience of pregnancy and childbirth greatly impacts women, families, and newborns on an emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual level. The focus of my midwifery practice is to ensure women and their babies experience excellent outcomes during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. My role is to provide evidence-based information about prenatal, postpartum, and newborn care so that you can make informed choices.

As your midwife, I will make sure you have plenty of time during every prenatal appointment for consultation. We will design a complete care program that encourages a healthy, happy pregnancy, a safe birth, and confident parenting.

If you are interested in midwifery and how it could positively impact your pregnancy and upcoming birth, I am always happy to answer your questions. Reach out to me today to schedule your first appointment and to find out more about the services I offer to expecting mothers and their families.

What are the benefits of hiring a midwife for a home birth?
There are other options for giving birth besides delivering in a hospital. Having a midwife deliver your baby at home can be a great option. It allows you to have more control over your environment and the people who will be around you. Instead of unfamiliar nurses and a doctor, you can invite supportive friends and family to be with you in whatever capacity you choose (labor support, preparing food, etc.). Being at home to give birth may also be more comfortable for you, allowing you to trade in cold and sterile rooms for a warm and cozy bedroom. It can also be more beneficial for babies to be born at home. Your baby will already have been exposed to the germs and allergens in your home instead of foreign ones at a hospital.
Is a midwife the same thing as a doula?
It is not. Both midwives and doulas can offer support before, during, and after birth, but midwives are trained medical professionals while doulas are not. Doulas may have other certifications, however. They often offer nonmedical techniques during labor, like breathing and helping the mother move into different positions. Doulas are not substitutes for medical professionals, but pregnant people who have a midwife generally don’t need a doctor for their pregnancy and birth.
Is midwifery covered by insurance?
Many insurance companies cover midwifery fees. If you are curious as to the costs, my insurance billing service can find out what your specific policy covers.
