Home > Midwifery > Midwife-led Continuity of Care

This study did not include homebirths though it did focus on the model of care that almost every homebirth midwife follows–continuity of care. The benefits are clear: less pain medications, more spontaneous vaginal deliveries (meaning fewer births assisted by forceps or vacuum), less interventions like episiotomies, and fewer preterm births. One-to-one prenatal care allows midwife and mother to build a trusting relationship so when the day of birth arrives the mother knows exactly who will be attending her (homebirth midwives rarely rotate on-call schedules).
