Midwifery is the practice of helping women while they are pregnant, during labor and delivery, and during the postpartum period. At Birth Choice, I am a licensed midwife with over 25 years of experience helping women have safe and healthy pregnancies and deliveries, whether they give birth in a hospital or within the walls of their own home in Lancaster, South Carolina.
While midwifery is an age-old practice, today’s midwifery practices combine the art of woman-to-woman care as well as evidence-based practice. I share my knowledge with expecting women and their families in addition to honoring the decisions they make about their birthing experience. My role as a licensed midwife is not to direct your choices, but to be a helpful source of information and guidance as you prepare to give birth, during labor and delivery, and as you recover and adjust to life with a new baby.
I support many women in the Lancaster area who decide to labor and deliver at home. I often encourage home births because they allow the mother to set the tone for the process and to deliver in a space that is familiar and comfortable to her. If you choose this option, you can also move around as you labor, determine who you want at the birth, and make other decisions to ensure your comfort.
